SINTRA & CASCAIS

SINTRA & CASCAIS – BEAUTY AND ROMANCE

Sinta-cascais

Sintra is definitely one of the most dreamy, lovely towns in Europe, a place for romantic jaunts and adventurous escapades, full of historical streets and old houses, handicraft shops and bakeries where you can try the famous travesseiros and queijadas de Sintra. Cascais is a charming fishing village busting with a delightful energy, aristocratic buildings, and the gorgeous sea.

AT A GLANCE

  • Explore the beautiful, historical palaces and gardens in romantic Sintra and delve into its misty atmospherE

  • Stroll around Cascais and discover its beautiful cobblestone streets and charming houses

  • Feel free to choose between 1 day or 2 days getting to know these two towns

The stunning Pena Palace, located on top of a hill, has breathtaking panoramic views over Sintra and the mountains, just like it was part of a fairy tale. It was built 25 years before the renowned Neuschwanstein Castle, in southwest Baviera, Germany, and it is probably the oldest romantic palace in Europe. The quixotic gardens of Monserrate and Pena receive plants and flowers coming from the five continents, living together with fabulous lakes and hidden treasures.

In the heart of Sintra you will find the National Palace, a place bearing a long story that begins during the Muslim occupation, later becoming a summer residence for the monarchy until the 17th century. As opposed to the Pena Palace, here all decorative elements are from its period of origin and were not recreated to comply with the tastes coming from the neo romanticism. Because it was inhabited for so long, it is very architectural and decorative rich, as it shows us original items of every king that spent time here.

Strolling around the narrow streets of Sintra and try the delicious travesseiros or queijadas from the famous Piriquita, have a taste of the unique wine produced only in Colares, to feel the wind in your face in the most western point of continental Europe, Cabo da Roca, all the way to one of the amazing beaches of the area, scrumptious grilled fish in an elegant restaurant overlooking the ocean, a visit to the unique Casa das Histórias, a museum dedicated to the Portuguese contemporary artist, Paula Rego, to sit on a garden bench and take in the sunset over the Cascais bay, these are all some of the experiences we can offer you in Sintra and Cascais.
